Jennifer Kerwin has been teaching privately in Maryland since 2001. She has coached students through first performances, auditions, local and state-level competitions. Several of her students have gone on to pursue courses in music when enrolling in colleges and universities.
Mrs. Kerwin plays piccolo/2nd flute with the Annandale Symphony Orchestra, performs with partner Joan Furlani as Flutes Forte, has conducted large and small ensembles and performs professionally in a solo capacity and with Flutitude Flute Choir. She has also attended lessons and master classes with Bart Feller, Jeanne Baxtresser, Michel DeBost, Kathleen Chastain, and has received coaching from Tim Friedlander locally.
Students of the Kerwin Flute Studio learn to perform in front of a live audience, are encouraged to take every and all playing opportunities as well as attend musical performances of area professionals. Each week, a student will study scales/theory, repertoire, and practice sight-reading during lesson time. Special audition materials, pit band or band testing material is also tackled during lesson.
Mrs. Kerwin has taught students of all performance abilities. Some students have started on recorder and grown into young flutists. Special needs students and adult students have had great success in the Kerwin Flute Studio also.
